Icathia is a cursed wasteland strongly aligned with the Void. Once a Shuriman province, its ancient denizens failed to control the magics that protected it from the Rune Wars, and the Void's corruption took hold. During the Void War, many imprisoned Void "Champions" broke free from the Institute and joined Malzahar's hordes. (The League was indeed compelled to recognize Icathia as a member-state during this conflict, at Malzahar's demand.) Though the forces of Discord were eventually defeated at the gates of Noxus, they spread the Void's power throughout Valoran.[1]
